Jammu, Feb 14: Security forces thwarted a major cross border smuggling attempt along the International Border in Jammu, recovering over four kilograms of heroin valued at more than Rs 20 crore, officials said on Saturday.
The seizure was made during a coordinated search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police in a forward village of the R S Pura sector after receiving inputs about a drone movement from across the border.
During the combing exercise, two packets containing the narcotics were traced and confiscated. Authorities have registered a case and initiated further investigations to track down individuals linked to the trafficking network.
The latest recovery follows a separate crackdown in Kathua district, where two suspects were apprehended for allegedly facilitating a similar drone-based narcotics delivery near Nagri. Around 150 grams of heroin had been seized in that case.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with a Pakistan based handler through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, highlighting the evolving tactics being used in cross-border drug smuggling operations.
