Himanta Begins Second Term as Assam Chief Minister, Four MLAs Inducted into Cabinet

Four legislators inducted into the new cabinet as NDA returns to power with a massive mandate in the 126-member Assembly.

GUWAHATI, May 12: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term, becoming the first non-Congress leader in the state to achieve the feat.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office at a grand ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati. Alongside Sarma, four MLAs were sworn in as ministers in the new government.
The ministers include BJP leaders Ajanta Neog and Rameswar Teli, along with alliance partners Atul Bora of the AGP and Charan Boro of the BPF.
While Neog, Bora and Boro were part of the previous cabinet, Teli has returned to state politics after serving in the Union government.
This marks the third successive NDA government in Assam since the alliance first came to power in 2016 under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal.
The NDA secured a landslide victory in the Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member House. The BJP accounted for 82 seats, while its allies AGP and BPF won 10 seats each.
Officials said more than one lakh people, including BJP panchayat representatives and party workers, attended the swearing-in ceremony. Security arrangements across Guwahati were intensified, with state and central forces deployed to oversee the event.
