18-06-2023 : The meteorological department in Jammu and Kashmir has forecasted hot and dry weather conditions for the region until June 23. Despite the dry conditions, there is a possibility of a brief spell of showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon or evening. The maximum temperatures over the plains of Jammu are expected to range between 38-40°C during this period.
Looking ahead to June 24-26, the weather outlook suggests a likelihood of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, scattered to fairly widespread across the region. However, it is important to note that there is no major rainfall forecasted for this week as a whole.
As for the temperatures, Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a low of 17.0°C, which is 2.2°C above normal. Qazigund, a gateway town in Kashmir, registered a low of 13.6°C, slightly above normal by 0.3°C. Pahalgam, a famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 8.6°C, just 0.1°C above normal.
In the northern areas, Kupwara town settled at 13.6°C, 0.4°C above normal, while Kokernag reported a low of 14.2°C, 1.1°C above normal. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, experienced a low of 10.8°C, which was 1.5°C above normal.
In Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, the temperature dropped to 27.7°C, surpassing the normal range by 2.2°C. Other regions in the vicinity such as Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah also recorded slightly higher than normal temperatures.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a low of 6.9°C, while Kargil registered a low of 12.5°C.
These temperature variations indicate a slight rise in night temperatures across most places in Jammu and Kashmir. The weather department’s observations provide valuable information for residents and tourists in the region, allowing them to plan their activities accordingly.
