HP Governor Kavinder Gupta visits Himachal Emporium in Delhi on National Handloom Day

New Delhi, August 7: Marking National Handloom Day, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta on Friday visited the Himachal Emporium at Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi and purchased locally made handloom and handicraft products, calling upon citizens across the country to buy at least one handloom product to support India’s weavers and artisans.

Extending his greetings to weavers, artisans and everyone associated with the handloom sector, the Governor said their skill, creativity and dedication have preserved India’s rich cultural heritage for generations and continue to strengthen the country’s identity through traditional craftsmanship.

During his visit to the Emporium, Shri Kavinder Gupta appreciated the exceptional craftsmanship of Himachal Pradesh’s artisans and said that every handloom product reflects India’s rich traditions, cultural diversity and the spirit of self-reliance. He observed that purchasing local products is not merely an economic activity but a meaningful contribution towards empowering artisan families, strengthening rural livelihoods, supporting women entrepreneurs and building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Recalling the historical significance of August 7, the Governor said the Swadeshi Movement was launched on this day in 1905 with the objective of encouraging the use of indigenous products and promoting self-reliance. He said the ideals of the movement continue to inspire the nation and remain highly relevant in today’s development journey.

Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s appeal, the Governor urged every citizen to purchase at least one local handloom product and actively support India’s weavers and artisans. He said that such a simple yet meaningful gesture would encourage traditional artisans, sustain age-old crafts and help preserve India’s invaluable handloom heritage for future generations.

The Governor said the “Vocal for Local” initiative is much more than a campaign to promote indigenous products. It is a national movement that strengthens local economies, creates sustainable livelihoods, preserves traditional crafts and reinforces the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Highlighting the rich handloom and handicraft traditions of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Kavinder Gupta said the state’s talented weavers and artisans are carrying forward a priceless legacy that reflects Himachal’s unique culture, artistic excellence and identity. He appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh and the country to support local weavers and artisans by choosing locally made handloom and handicraft products.

“Every purchase of a handloom product is an investment in our cultural heritage and in the livelihoods of thousands of artisan families. Let us celebrate the timeless legacy of Indian handlooms by proudly embracing indigenous craftsmanship and making it a part of our daily lives,” the Governor said.
