Senior IPS officer Anand Jain relieved from J&K Police duties following appointment as DGP Ladakh; Birdi to oversee Armed Police Wing in addition to Kashmir Zone responsibilities.

JAMMU, Jun 23: In a significant administrative reshuffle within the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, has been assigned the additional charge of the Armed Police Wing following the transfer of senior IPS officer Anand Jain to the Union Territory of Ladakh.

An official order issued by the Police Headquarters stated that Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed, has been relieved from his duties in Jammu and Kashmir with effect from the night of June 22, 2026. The move follows his appointment as Director General of Police (DGP), Ladakh, by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

With Jain’s departure, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has made interim arrangements to ensure the smooth functioning of the Armed Wing. As per the order, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, who currently heads the Kashmir Zone as IGP, will additionally supervise the Armed Police Wing until further orders are issued.

The arrangement has been approved by the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, and aims to maintain continuity in the administration and operational management of the force during the transition period.

The order, issued by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Personnel Mubassir Latifi, formally notified the change and directed the implementation of the new charge arrangement with immediate effect.

Anand Jain’s appointment as DGP Ladakh marks a key leadership change in the neighbouring Union Territory, while Birdi’s expanded role places him at the helm of two important policing responsibilities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The latest development is part of ongoing administrative adjustments within the police establishment aimed at strengthening leadership and ensuring efficient functioning across different wings of the security apparatus.
