CHENNAI, Feb 2: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in districts along the Western Ghats on Monday, driven by multiple low-pressure systems over adjacent sea regions.
Officials reported that a low-level cyclonic circulation is active over the southeast Arabian Sea and areas off the Lakshadweep and Kerala coasts, while another has formed over the Comorin Sea. These systems are likely to affect weather patterns across parts of southern India.
Residents in hilly and landslide-prone areas have been advised to exercise caution, as intermittent rain may impact daily routines and travel.
In addition, the IMD has issued a fog advisory for interior districts, including Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Nilgiris, and Dindigul, where moderate fog is expected in early morning hours until February 5. Motorists have been urged to drive carefully due to reduced visibility.
Chennai is likely to remain partly cloudy, with minimum temperatures around 23°C, offering relatively stable and pleasant conditions compared to interior regions.
While no extreme weather warnings have been issued so far, meteorologists said the low pressure systems will be closely monitored, and updates will be shared promptly if rainfall or wind patterns intensify.
Fishermen along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts have also been advised to stay alert as sea conditions could change due to the prevailing cyclonic circulations.
The IMD emphasized that this period marks a seasonal transition phase, with fluctuating rainfall, fog, and temperatures across southern India.
