Incompetent government, roads and traffic system in shambles: Shiv Sena

Ultimatum to fill potholes and repair signal lights
  • Potted roads are an inconvenience and a silent massacre
Jammu: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)’s Jammu and Kashmir unit has raised an outcry over the dilapidated roads and poor traffic system in Jammu and has given an ultimatum to repair them within 15 days and fill the potholes on the roads.
Led by party state president Manish Sahni, Shiv Sainiks , staged a strong and symbolic protest, shaming the government and Jammu’s public representatives by writing “Diwali gift from an Incompetent government” on the potholes on the roads leading to Jammu’s busy Dogra Chowk & near Tawi Bridge.
Manish Sahni said that the Smart City of Jammu has today become identified with potholed roads and poor traffic system.  He stated that  spending crores of rupees on Sign boards, flashing lights, and large LED screens does not make a city smart. Improving roads, streets, drains, and traffic management is also essential. Potholed roads are proving to be a silent massacre, causing inconvenience. Between 2019 and October 2024, road accidents in the Union Territory resulted in 4,899 deaths and 40,065 injuries—an average of approximately one death every two hours. Potholed roads, congestion, and unplanned traffic management lead to traffic jams on almost all major and other roads. Even short journeys take hours, causing significant inconvenience to the public.
Meanwhile, nearly all traffic signal lights installed under the Smart City project are out of order. Traffic personnel, instead of improving traffic flow, are busy just taking photographs of traffic violators.  Sahni warned that if the roads and traffic system are not repaired in the next 15 days,  ‘useless government’ will be written on all the potholed roads.
On this occasion Vikas Bakshi, Sanjeev Kohli, Raj Singh , Aditya Mahajan, Raju Kapoor, Jasbir Singh, Neelam, Om Parkash, Deeraj Kohli, Arun,  Ganesh and many others were present.
