NEW DELHI, Aug 8: Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Saturday released a new knowledge paper outlining a roadmap for the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in India’s medical technology and healthcare sectors.
Titled ‘AI in MedTech: Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Artificial Intelligence’, the report was unveiled during India Medical Device 2026 in New Delhi. It identifies key areas that could help move AI-based healthcare solutions from pilot projects to wider clinical use.
The framework places emphasis on developing AI-ready health data, generating stronger clinical evidence and establishing regulatory mechanisms that can keep pace with rapidly evolving medical technologies.
It also calls for suitable procurement and reimbursement systems to support the wider adoption of AI-enabled medical solutions.
The report highlights AI-powered diagnostics as one of the areas with significant potential for large-scale implementation. Such technologies could help extend specialist expertise to primary and secondary healthcare facilities and improve access to medical services.
The document also points to India’s digital public infrastructure, software capabilities, diverse clinical environment and expanding medical-device manufacturing sector as important advantages in developing AI-driven healthcare solutions.
Officials and industry representatives have stressed the importance of coordination among government bodies, regulators, healthcare providers, industry and academic institutions to ensure that emerging technologies are deployed safely and effectively.
The initiative comes as India seeks to strengthen its domestic MedTech ecosystem while positioning itself as a global hub for innovation in medical technology.
