India and Russia Set to Deepen Trade Cooperation During Jaishankar’s Moscow Visit

The 27th India-Russia inter-governmental commission will review opportunities in trade, technology, science and other economic sectors.

NEW DELHI, Aug 23: India and Russia are set to review opportunities for expanding economic and commercial cooperation as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visits Moscow on August 23–24 for high-level bilateral discussions.

Jaishankar is co-chairing the 27th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.

The meeting provides a platform for both sides to assess existing economic ties and identify new areas for collaboration. Trade, scientific research, technology and other sectors are expected to remain central to discussions.

The visit comes as New Delhi and Moscow continue efforts to strengthen their longstanding strategic partnership while exploring additional avenues for economic engagement.

The inter-governmental commission has an important role in reviewing bilateral cooperation and facilitating discussions between the two countries on commercial and economic matters.

Greater cooperation in technology and scientific fields could provide opportunities for businesses and institutions in both countries, while stronger trade engagement could help expand the range of goods and services exchanged between the two markets.

Jaishankar’s visit also underlines the importance India places on maintaining regular economic dialogue with Russia. The two-day engagement is expected to provide an opportunity to assess progress in existing areas and discuss possibilities for expanding cooperation.

The discussions could further support efforts to build stronger institutional mechanisms for bilateral trade and economic relations.

As both countries seek to broaden their partnership beyond traditional areas, the commission meeting is expected to serve as an important forum for identifying new opportunities in commerce, science and technology.
