India Calls for Reformed Multilateralism as It Unveils Logo, Website for BRICS 2026 Presidency

EAM Jaishankar says BRICS must push for inclusive global governance as India outlines priorities for its 2026 chairship

New Delhi, Jan 13: India on Tuesday formally launched the official website and logo for its BRICS Presidency 2026, underscoring its commitment to reformed multilateralism and people-centric global cooperation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled the digital platform and emblem, highlighting India’s vision to harness the collective potential of BRICS nations for global welfare.

Speaking at the event, Jaishankar noted that India is assuming the BRICS presidency at a crucial moment, as the grouping marks 20 years since its inception. He said BRICS has evolved into a key platform representing emerging markets and developing economies, expanding both its agenda and membership while remaining focused on people-oriented development and practical cooperation.

The minister pointed out that the world is currently grappling with interconnected challenges such as geopolitical uncertainties, economic complexities, climate risks, technological disruptions, and persistent development gaps. In this context, he said BRICS plays a vital role by encouraging dialogue, cooperation, and pragmatic responses that also respect national priorities.

Jaishankar stressed the urgent need for reforming global governance institutions. “The call for a reinvigorated, inclusive and effective multilateral order has never been more pressing. BRICS must commit to reformed multilateralism that reflects contemporary realities, where institutions like the United Nations, WTO, IMF and World Bank are more representative and inclusive,” he said.

He added that India’s BRICS Presidency in 2026 will follow a humanity-first and people-centric approach, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Explaining the symbolism behind the BRICS Presidency logo, Jaishankar said it reflects the theme of India’s chairship—building resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. The logo blends tradition with modernity, with petals featuring the colours of all BRICS member countries, symbolising unity in diversity and shared purpose.

The newly launched BRICS India website will act as a single-point platform for information on meetings, initiatives and outcomes of the grouping during India’s presidency.

Jaishankar outlined four broad priorities for India’s BRICS chairship: resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. He also reiterated the three foundational pillars of BRICS cooperation—political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

India, he said, will work towards strengthening institutional capacities to withstand global shocks, with a focus on resilience in agriculture, health, disaster risk reduction, energy and supply chains. The presidency will also emphasise the use of new and emerging technologies to address socio-economic challenges, along with enhanced cooperation in areas such as start-ups and MSMEs.

Climate action, clean energy and sustainable development pathways that are fair and inclusive will remain central to India’s BRICS agenda, the minister added.
