India, May 05 : New Delhi Calls Attack on Civilians “Unacceptable”
India on Tuesday strongly condemned the drone attack in the United Arab Emirates’ port city of Fujairah that left three Indian nationals injured, describing the incident as “unacceptable” and urging an immediate halt to violence targeting civilians and critical infrastructure.
The response from New Delhi came after a major oil industry zone in Fujairah caught fire following a suspected drone strike on Monday. The United Arab Emirates accused Iran of being responsible for the attack, further escalating tensions in the strategically important Gulf region.
India expressed deep concern over the safety of civilians amid the growing instability in West Asia and reiterated its support for diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
External Affairs Ministry Issues Strong Statement
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India was closely monitoring the situation and condemned attacks affecting innocent people.
“The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable,” Jaiswal stated during a media briefing in New Delhi.
He emphasized the urgent need to stop hostilities and avoid actions that threaten civilian lives and economic infrastructure.
India also called on all sides involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and prioritize peaceful dialogue over military confrontation.
Concerns Grow Over Regional Stability
The drone strike has intensified concerns about security in the Gulf, particularly around vital energy and shipping routes linked to the global oil trade.
Fujairah is considered one of the UAE’s most important port cities and plays a significant role in international energy transportation. Any disruption in the area could impact global markets and maritime commerce.
India stressed that peace and stability in West Asia remain critical for international trade, regional security, and the safety of millions of expatriate workers living in Gulf countries.
India Supports Diplomacy and Dialogue
Reaffirming its long-standing position, India called for diplomatic efforts to resolve rising tensions in the region.
Jaiswal stated that New Delhi continues to support “dialogue and diplomacy” to restore stability across West Asia and prevent further violence.
He also highlighted the importance of ensuring free and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade corridors.
“We also call for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law,” he said.
India added that it remains prepared to support all international efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Safety of Indian Nationals Remains Priority
The Indian government is closely coordinating with authorities in the UAE to monitor the condition of the injured citizens and ensure necessary assistance.
Thousands of Indians live and work across the Gulf region, making regional stability a major concern for New Delhi. Officials are also keeping a close watch on developments that could affect the safety of Indian communities abroad.
The latest incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia and the urgent need for diplomatic solutions to avoid a broader regional conflict.
