NEW DELHI, May 30: India and Canada have launched a new Trade and Investment Forum aimed at strengthening commercial cooperation and creating fresh opportunities for businesses in both countries.
The announcement was made through a joint statement issued following Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s three day official visit to Canada from May 25 to 27. During the visit, Goyal held discussions with leading industry representatives and met Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu.
The newly established forum will serve as a dedicated platform for business leaders from the two countries to explore partnerships, encourage investments, and enhance economic engagement across key sectors.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of improving connectivity through stronger people to people exchanges, smoother business mobility, and direct commercial linkages to support growing trade and investment flows.
India and Canada reaffirmed their commitment to negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), describing it as a key step toward improving market access, strengthening supply chains, and driving sustainable economic growth. The two countries expressed confidence in concluding the negotiations by the end of 2026.
In a further push to bilateral economic cooperation, Minister Sidhu announced that Canada will lead a Team Canada Trade Mission to India later this year to explore new business and investment opportunities.
