NEW DELHI, May 28: India and China on Wednesday held talks in Beijing on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, with both sides describing the discussions as constructive and aimed at advancing bilateral engagement.
The meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) focused on recent developments in border areas and measures to sustain stability along the frontier.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the two countries reviewed the prevailing conditions in the India-China border regions and acknowledged the progress achieved in preserving peace and tranquillity.
According to the MEA, the improvement in the border situation has contributed to the gradual restoration of overall bilateral ties between New Delhi and Beijing.
The two sides also agreed to continue diplomatic and military-level engagement and make substantive preparations for the next round of talks between the Special Representatives (SRs), scheduled to take place in China.
The WMCC mechanism serves as an institutional framework for dialogue and coordination on border related matters between the two neighbours.
