Geneva, Sept 24: India on Tuesday strongly condemned Pakistan for airstrikes targeting civilians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accusing Islamabad of “bombing its own civilians, exporting terrorism, and harbouring UN-proscribed terrorists.” The comments were made by Indian Counsellor Kshitij Tyagi at the 60th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
Tyagi highlighted that Pakistan continues to misuse international forums with baseless accusations against India. “Instead of coveting our territory, they would do well to focus on rescuing an economy on life support, a polity muzzled by military dominance, and a human rights record stained by persecution,” he said.
The airstrikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday killed at least 30 people, including children, prompting local protests. The Pakistani government has not issued any statement regarding the incident.
Reiterating India’s stand at the UNHRC, Tyagi called for a universal, objective, and non-selective approach to human rights. He stressed that the Council’s work should foster unity and constructive engagement rather than division, warning against country-specific mandates that reinforce perceptions of bias.
“At a time when the world faces multiple crises, the Council’s work should focus on forging consensus through a non-politicised and forward-looking approach,” Tyagi added.
