India Conducts Massive Nationwide Emergency Alert Drill

Mobile Phones Across India Receive Test Warning Messages

India, May 03 : Millions of mobile users across India received emergency warning alerts on May 2 as the central government carried out one of the country’s largest disaster communication drills. The alerts, sent through the Cell Broadcast System, appeared on smartphones with loud alarm tones and warning messages marked “Extremely Severe.”

The exercise was conducted to evaluate India’s preparedness during emergencies such as earthquakes, cyclones, tsunamis, and floods. Officials clarified that the notification was only a trial and urged citizens not to panic.

The government said the technology allows alerts to reach millions of users simultaneously without network congestion, making it more efficient than conventional SMS services. Disaster management experts described the move as an important step toward building a digitally resilient India.
