New Delhi, Aug. 1: The Centre has stepped up its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy by announcing the establishment of new AI innovation centres aimed at boosting research, developing indigenous technologies, and supporting startups working on next-generation digital solutions.
The initiative is designed to create a collaborative ecosystem involving academic institutions, technology companies, research organisations, and government agencies. The centres will focus on developing AI applications across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, manufacturing, and governance.
Officials said the programme will provide researchers and startups with access to high-performance computing resources, specialised datasets, and technical mentoring to accelerate product development and innovation.
The government also plans to strengthen skill development by introducing advanced AI training programmes and industry oriented certification courses. These efforts are expected to prepare a larger workforce capable of supporting India’s growing digital economy.
Industry experts believe the expansion of AI infrastructure will reduce dependence on foreign technologies while encouraging domestic innovation in emerging fields such as generative AI, robotics, cybersecurity, and language models.
The initiative forms part of India’s broader digital transformation strategy, with policymakers aiming to position the country as a global hub for responsible and inclusive AI development.
