India Expands Telemedicine Network to Strengthen Rural Healthcare Access

New initiative aims to bridge urban-rural healthcare gap through digital consultations

New Delhi: The Government of India has announced an expansion of its telemedicine services to improve healthcare access in remote and rural regions. The initiative focuses on integrating advanced digital platforms with primary health centres to enable real-time consultations with specialists.

Officials stated that the move is designed to reduce the burden on urban hospitals while ensuring timely diagnosis and treatment for patients in underserved areas. The programme will also include mobile health units and AI-supported diagnostic tools to assist frontline health workers.

Healthcare experts believe that the expansion will significantly improve early detection of diseases and reduce travel costs for rural populations. The government has also emphasized training healthcare staff to effectively use digital tools and maintain data privacy standards.
