India, Israel ink agreement to boost technology and innovation in fisheries and aquaculture

Bilateral agreement to foster innovation, sustainable practices, and joint research in the blue economy

India, Jan 16 :  India has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable blue economy practices, innovation, and international cooperation to strengthen global food security.

A high level Indian delegation, led by Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, concluded an official visit to Israel from January 13–15, 2026, to attend the Second Global Summit on “Blue Food Security: Sea the Future 2026” in Eilat.

The visit marked a major step in deepening India-Israel cooperation in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Minister Singh took part in the Opening Plenary Session, interacting with Israeli Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter, Minister for Regional Cooperation David Amsalem, senior officials, and private sector representatives. Delegates from Ghana, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Morocco, Romania, and the Philippines also participated.

During the Global Ministerial Panel Discussion on Food Security and the Blue Economy, Singh highlighted India’s achievements in fisheries and outlined its expanding role in advancing sustainable global fisheries and aquaculture.

The minister also toured Israel’s Ag-Tech Innovation Exhibition, engaging with startups and innovators in fisheries, aquaculture, blue food, and marine technology, demonstrating the pivotal role of technology in sectoral growth.

Bilateral discussions with Israeli counterparts focused on strengthening trade, capacity building, startup exchanges, joint research and development, and sharing best practices in fisheries and allied sectors.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Joint Ministerial Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in Fisheries and Aquaculture. The declaration emphasizes collaboration in technology and innovation, sustainable fishing practices, capacity building, trade, and lays the groundwork for Joint Centres of Excellence between India and Israel.
