NEW DELHI, Aug 11: India made an impressive start at the U-23 Commonwealth Fencing Championship in Lagos, winning 17 medals, including four gold, on the opening day of the competition.
The Indian contingent secured four gold, four silver and nine bronze medals as the championships got underway in Nigeria, giving the team an early lead in the medal standings.
Indian fencers produced strong performances across the opening day events, with several athletes reaching the podium and contributing to the country’s medal tally.
