Japan, Sept 22: India’s men’s badminton team secured an Asian Games medal after defeating Japan 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the team event on Tuesday. The victory sent India into the semifinals of the competition.
India produced a strong performance across the tie, winning all three matches to seal its place in the last four without needing the remaining encounters.
The doubles combination of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty delivered an important victory against their Japanese opponents, while the singles players also maintained India’s advantage during the tie.
The result guaranteed India another medal opportunity at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, adding to the country’s growing medal tally.
India’s men’s badminton squad will now compete in the semifinal as it looks to progress further in the team competition.
