- Premium postal revolution begins as India Post rolls out assured next-day and two-day delivery services in six cities
NEW DELHI, Mar 17: In a major move aimed at modernising India’s postal and logistics network, the Department of Posts on Tuesday launched three premium time-bound delivery services offering guaranteed 24-hour and 48-hour delivery for urgent and time-sensitive consignments. The new services, 24 Speed Post, 24 Speed Post Parcel and 48 Speed Post, were launched by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia as part of a broader effort to reposition India Post in the fast-evolving logistics and e-commerce landscape.
The newly introduced products are designed to provide assured delivery timelines, with 24 Speed Post and 24 Speed Post Parcel offering next-day delivery between identified locations, while 48 Speed Post will provide a reliable two-day delivery commitment across a wider network. In the first phase, the premium services are being rolled out in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, with dedicated processing arrangements and priority air transmission being used to maintain the promised delivery schedules.
Describing the launch as a significant moment of renewal for India Post, Scindia said the Department was preparing itself for the next phase of growth in logistics and digital commerce. He pointed to the scale of the emerging opportunity, saying that India’s e-commerce market is projected to rise to Rs 30 lakh crore by 2030, up from about Rs 11 lakh crore at present, making it essential for India Post to strengthen its service standards and delivery capabilities.
According to official details, the premium services will come with several customer-oriented features aimed at improving reliability and convenience. These include OTP-verified delivery, end-to-end tracking, and real-time SMS alerts, giving customers better visibility and security for their consignments. For business users, the Department has also announced Book Now, Pay Later facilities, centralised billing, API integration, and free pickup for bulk shipments, making the services more attractive for commercial and e-commerce users.
A notable feature of the new offerings is the money-back guarantee in the event of delayed delivery, a step that signals India Post’s intention to compete more aggressively in the premium express logistics space. This assurance, combined with guaranteed delivery windows, reflects an attempt to raise confidence among both individual and institutional users who increasingly demand faster and more predictable service.
The launch is being seen as part of a larger transformation of India Post from a traditional mail carrier into a more technology-enabled logistics and service platform. By combining its wide network reach with time-definite delivery, digital tracking and business integration tools, the Department is seeking to secure a stronger position in a market where speed, predictability and service trust have become critical. That broader interpretation is an inference based on the features announced and the Minister’s remarks about the size of the e-commerce opportunity.
With the rollout beginning in six major metro cities, the performance of these services is likely to be closely watched by businesses, online sellers and customers looking for dependable express delivery through the public postal system. The launch marks a decisive step towards a faster, more accountable and more competitive India Post.
