India Recall Kohli and Rohit for West Indies ODIs, Name New Faces for Upcoming Series

Shubman Gill will lead the ODI side as selectors announce squads for the West Indies series and Asian Games commitments.

New Delhi, Sep 17 : The Indian cricket selectors have announced squads for the upcoming white ball assignments, with veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returning to the ODI setup for the home series against the West Indies.

The three match ODI series is scheduled to begin on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. Shubman Gill will continue as captain, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain.

The selection committee has also handed maiden ODI call-ups to Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi. Their inclusion comes as the team balances its requirements for the upcoming international fixtures and the Asian Games.

The selectors have made several adjustments across the different squads because of overlapping commitments. Shreyas Iyer will lead India’s T20 side against the West Indies, while teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also been included in the T20 setup.

India are scheduled to face Japan in a T20 international on September 22 before beginning their men’s cricket campaign at the Asian Games. The men’s team is set to enter the tournament at the quarter-final stage on September 28.

Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the Japan match and Asian Games after suffering a side strain, with Vipraj Nigam named as his replacement.
