India Recall Sarfaraz Khan for Sri Lanka Test Series

The Mumbai batter returns to the Test squad after being out of the national setup, strengthening India’s batting options ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

NEW DELHI, Aug 11: Sarfaraz Khan has earned a return to India’s Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, marking another opportunity for the Mumbai batter to establish himself in the national side.

The 28 year old was included in the squad after India faced concerns over player availability ahead of the two Test series. His selection has drawn considerable attention as the team prepares for the opening match in Galle.

Sarfaraz made his international Test debut in 2024 and quickly made an impression with a century against New Zealand. However, he has not featured regularly in the playing XI since then.

The latest call up gives the right hander another chance to push for a place in India’s middle order. His strong record in domestic cricket has remained an important factor in his continued consideration by the selectors.

Following the announcement, Sarfaraz shared photographs of himself wearing the official Team India travelling jersey on social media. One image also showed his father alongside him, reflecting the significance of his return to the national setup.

India’s preparations for the Sri Lanka series have been affected by several fitness and availability concerns, increasing the importance of having reliable batting alternatives within the squad.

The Test series is scheduled to begin in Galle on August 15. Sarfaraz’s inclusion provides India with additional depth as the team seeks strong performances in the upcoming matches.
