India : Indian women boxers delivered a historic performance at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, securing their best-ever medal haul abroad. Minakshi Hooda (48kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) won gold medals, while Nupur (80+kg) claimed silver and Pooja Rani (80kg) took home bronze.
Jaismine inaugurated India’s gold tally with a commanding 4:1 victory over Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland, while Minakshi capped the campaign with a 4:1 triumph over Kazakhstan’s three-time world champion and Paris Olympics bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay. Both boxers showed composure and tactical brilliance despite being first-time finalists.
Nupur narrowly missed gold, losing 2:3 to Poland’s multiple European medallist Agama Kaczmarska, while Pooja Rani went down 1:4 to England’s Emily Asquith in the semifinals.
Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh praised the athletes’ achievements, highlighting the success of the federation’s athlete-first policy. “These results demonstrate that Indian boxing is on a decisive upward trajectory. Our women boxers have shown they are future Olympic champions,” Singh said.
India’s performance at the Liverpool World Championships marks a significant milestone for women’s boxing, establishing the nation as a rising force on the global stage.
