New Delhi, Aug 26: India is intensifying efforts to establish itself as a preferred global destination for medical value travel, with the government highlighting the country’s medical expertise, specialised facilities and growing healthcare infrastructure.
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said the government views medical travel as an important avenue for international cooperation and stronger people-to-people connections. He was speaking through a video message at the eighth edition of Advantage Healthcare India in New Delhi.
Nadda said India’s healthcare capabilities extend across several specialised fields, including cardiology, oncology, organ transplantation, orthopaedics and neurosciences.
The government is seeking to use the country’s pool of highly trained medical professionals and modern healthcare facilities to attract patients from abroad. India has emerged as a destination for international patients seeking specialised procedures at competitive costs.
The minister also highlighted the importance of internationally benchmarked standards and transparent governance in strengthening confidence among overseas patients.
Medical value travel has become an increasingly important component of India’s broader healthcare strategy. Apart from bringing international patients to Indian hospitals, the sector can contribute to medical collaboration and strengthen ties between countries.
The government is also focusing on patient centric healthcare as it seeks to improve India’s position in the global medical services market.
With hospitals expanding specialised services and healthcare technology advancing rapidly, policymakers expect India’s medical capabilities to play a greater role in international healthcare cooperation in the coming years.
