India Women Complete 3-0 ODI Whitewash Against Zimbabwe, Vaishnavi Sharma Stars With Five Wickets

Vaishnavi Sharma claims a maiden five wicket haul as Pratika Rawal and Shafali Verma power India to an eight-wicket victory and a 3-0 series triumph.

VADODARA, Oct 30: India’s women’s cricket team completed a commanding 3-0 clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the three match One-Day International series, registering an eight wicket victory in the final encounter at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara.

The hosts produced another dominant all round performance on October 28, restricting Zimbabwe to 131 runs before chasing down the target in just 17 overs. The emphatic victory underlined India’s superiority throughout the series and provided an encouraging start to Smriti Mandhana’s tenure as full-time captain in the 50-over format.

Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma emerged as the standout performer in the final match, claiming her maiden five-wicket haul in international cricket. Her impressive figures of 5 for 39 in 10 overs dismantled the Zimbabwean batting order and prevented the visitors from building a competitive total.

Opening batter Pratika Rawal then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 59 off 56 deliveries, while Shafali Verma provided an aggressive start with a quickfire 51 from just 26 balls.

Zimbabwe, after winning the toss and electing to bat, struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack. The visitors were eventually dismissed for 131 in 39.5 overs, leaving the Indian batters with a relatively straightforward target.

Vaishnavi’s bowling proved decisive as she consistently troubled the Zimbabwean batters through accuracy, variations and control. Her performance reflected the growing depth of India’s spin department and provided another promising indication of the country’s emerging talent.

The young spinner received valuable support from the rest of the bowling unit, which maintained pressure and prevented Zimbabwe from establishing meaningful partnerships.

Modester Mupachikwa was among the notable contributors for the visitors, scoring 37 runs, but Zimbabwe failed to produce the substantial partnerships required to challenge the Indian attack.

India’s response was equally impressive. Rawal and Shafali attacked from the beginning, taking advantage of the modest target and putting Zimbabwe’s bowlers under immediate pressure.

Shafali played an aggressive innings, striking boundaries regularly and ensuring that India maintained a high scoring rate. Her 51-run contribution provided the foundation for a comfortable chase.

Rawal, meanwhile, displayed excellent composure and continued to score freely without taking unnecessary risks. Her unbeaten half-century ensured that India crossed the finishing line with eight wickets remaining.

The victory completed a highly successful series for the Indian side, which had already won the opening two matches by convincing margins.

In the first ODI, India defeated Zimbabwe by nine wickets after successfully chasing a target of 198. The hosts produced an impressive batting performance, reaching 200 for one in just 27.1 overs.

The second match witnessed another commanding display, with India securing a 121-run victory. The home side posted an imposing 328 for six before bowling Zimbabwe out for 207 in 48.5 overs.

The final match continued the same pattern, with India’s bowlers and batters delivering strong performances to complete the series without losing a match.

The clean sweep was particularly important because it came during India’s preparations for a demanding international cricket calendar. The series allowed the team management to assess emerging players while giving established performers an opportunity to maintain their form.

Rawal was one of the biggest positives for India throughout the three-match contest. She finished as the leading run-scorer with 220 runs, including a century and two half-centuries. Her consistency at the top of the order provided stability and allowed the other batters to play more freely.

Her performance in the opening ODI was especially impressive, as she remained unbeaten on 100 to guide India to a nine-wicket victory. She followed that effort with another valuable contribution in the subsequent matches, demonstrating her ability to adapt to different match situations.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma also made significant contributions during the series. Both scored centuries in the second ODI, helping India post 328 for six, one of the strongest batting performances of the contest.

Harmanpreet scored 126 runs, while Deepti remained unbeaten on 106. Their partnership demonstrated India’s batting depth and ability to build substantial totals against international opposition.

The bowling department also delivered consistent performances. Vaishnavi finished the series as the leading wicket-taker with nine dismissals, while Shree Charani contributed five wickets.

The performances of the young spinners were particularly encouraging for the Indian team. Their ability to maintain pressure during the middle overs and take wickets at crucial moments provided the side with additional options.

For Zimbabwe, the series proved challenging despite some individual contributions. Beloved Biza emerged as one of the visitors’ most consistent batters, scoring 62 in the opening match. Modester Mupachikwa and captain Josephine Nkomo also attempted to provide resistance, but the team struggled to match India’s overall quality.

The difference between the two sides was evident in batting depth, bowling consistency and fielding execution. India managed to build partnerships, accelerate when required and maintain control throughout the three matches.

The series was also part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025–29 cycle, making the results important beyond the immediate bilateral contest. India’s three victories earned six valuable championship points, lifting the team to seventh position in the standings, while Zimbabwe remained tenth.

For Mandhana, the clean sweep represented a positive beginning to her first ODI series as full-time captain. Leading a team featuring experienced international players and emerging talents, she will be encouraged by the consistency shown across all departments.

India’s success also highlighted the importance of developing young players who can contribute in major international competitions. Vaishnavi’s five-wicket performance and Rawal’s impressive batting campaign demonstrated that the team has several promising options available.

The series victory will provide confidence to the Indian camp as it continues preparations for future international assignments. Maintaining the same level of discipline against stronger opposition will remain an important objective.

With the batting unit producing substantial scores and the bowlers delivering regular breakthroughs, India have demonstrated that their strength lies in collective performances rather than dependence on individual players.

The 3-0 result was therefore more than just a series victory. It offered valuable championship points, strengthened the team’s confidence and showcased the growing contribution of younger cricketers to India’s women’s cricket setup.

India will now look to build on this performance and carry the momentum into its upcoming international commitments.
