Sharm El-Sheikh, Oct 14: Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, represented India at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday, joining world leaders to promote stability in the Middle East.
Co-hosted by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the high-level summit followed recent developments in Gaza, including the release of remaining hostages and the establishment of a ceasefire, creating momentum for renewed diplomatic efforts.
The discussions centered on strengthening collective dialogue and cooperation as key tools for resolving conflicts. India reaffirmed its long-standing position advocating for peace in the Middle East and the resolution of issues through diplomacy.
An official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs emphasized: “India stands for peace in the Middle East and resolution of issues through dialogue and diplomacy.” India explicitly endorsed President Trump’s Gaza peace plan and acknowledged the crucial mediation roles of Egypt and Qatar in facilitating the hostage releases and advancing the ceasefire.
India’s participation underscores its continued support for a negotiated two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, a policy maintained for decades. The statement added, “We will support all efforts towards a lasting peace in the region,” highlighting India’s proactive stance in global peacekeeping initiatives.
The summit’s outcomes are expected to foster broader economic and security cooperation, contributing to regional and global stability. President Trump described the event as a “historic opportunity”, while President Al-Sisi stressed Egypt’s role in mediating between conflicting parties.
Minister Singh’s attendance reflects India’s balanced foreign policy, strengthening relations with key regional players while prioritizing humanitarian concerns. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi is preparing follow-up engagements to implement agreements and support the peace process.
