NEW DELHI, Sept 13: India has crossed the milestone of 80 lakh Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to strengthen prevention against HPV related diseases.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the vaccination programme has achieved the milestone as part of the government’s broader focus on preventive healthcare and immunisation.
HPV infection is associated with several cancers, including cervical cancer, making vaccination an important preventive measure. Health authorities have been working to increase awareness about the benefits of immunisation and improve access to preventive healthcare services.
The latest milestone comes as India continues to strengthen its vaccination infrastructure and expand public-health interventions targeting diseases that can be prevented or reduced through early protection.
The government has increasingly emphasised preventive healthcare alongside treatment, with vaccination, screening and early diagnosis forming important components of its public health strategy.
The achievement also underlines the importance of improving awareness among families and adolescents about HPV and the diseases associated with persistent infection.
