BEIJING, Jul 29: Indian Consul General in Shanghai Pratik Mathur held a meeting with Shi Huifang, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Shaoxing city of Zhejiang province, during his official visit to the Chinese city on Wednesday.
The discussions focused on strengthening exchanges and cooperation between India and Shaoxing, with both sides reviewing the recent visit of Shi Huifang to India. During his India trip, the CPC leader had visited major cities including New Delhi and Bengaluru.
The Indian Consulate in Shanghai shared details of the meeting on social media platform X, stating that the interaction included an in-depth discussion on Shi’s India visit and the opportunities for further collaboration between the two sides.
During the meeting, Mathur expressed appreciation to the Shaoxing leadership for its support and hospitality extended to the Indian athletics contingent during the second Asian Relay Championships held last month.
Indian athletes delivered an impressive performance at the championship, securing several medals, including a historic gold medal in the women’s 4×100 metre relay event. The Consul General highlighted the significance of such sporting exchanges in promoting people-to-people connections between the two countries.
As part of his visit, Mathur also engaged with members of the Indian community residing in Shaoxing and interacted with local cultural institutions. He visited the Lu Xun Foundation, which commemorates the legacy of renowned Chinese writer and poet Lu Xun.
At Lu Xun’s former residence, Mathur paid tribute to the literary icon and recalled Lu Xun’s association with Indian Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The visit highlighted the longstanding cultural links and intellectual exchanges that have connected India and China over the decades.
The meeting and cultural engagements come amid continued efforts by both countries to maintain dialogue and expand areas of cooperation through diplomatic, cultural and people centric initiatives.
