IndiGo Disruptions Persist on Monday as Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad Face Major Cancellations

Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad airports report widespread cancellations as government, DGCA push airline for compliance and recovery

New Delhi, Dec 08 : Flight delays linked to IndiGo flight cancellations showed no signs of easing on Monday, prompting Delhi Airport to issue a fresh advisory urging passengers to check live flight status before leaving for the terminal. The caution comes amid persistent operational strain across major metros, where weekend disruptions have spilled into the new work week.

Government agencies and the aviation regulator remain in active intervention mode after days of cancellations affecting thousands of passengers. Airlines have been instructed to strictly follow revised fare caps, improve communication with travellers, and process refunds without delay. IndiGo has additionally been directed to trace and deliver all separated baggage within mandated timelines.

134 IndiGo Flights Cancelled at Delhi’s IGI Airport

IndiGo cancelled 134 flights at Delhi Airport on Monday   75 departures and 59 arrivals  underscoring the scale of the operational disruption.

Delhi Airport said IndiGo services “may continue to experience delays” and advised passengers to verify real-time updates on the official website. Airport teams, it added, were working with all stakeholders to minimise inconvenience, while assistance counters and medical support remain available across terminals.

Bengaluru Airport Sees Major Disruptions; Next Update After 6 PM

At Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, operations remained heavily impacted, with 65 arrivals and 62 departures cancelled by IndiGo. Airport authorities said the next detailed update will be issued after 6 pm, as operational challenges continue.

Public transport to the airport, including metro and bus services, continues to run normally, authorities said.

Hyderabad Reports 77 IndiGo Cancellations

Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport recorded 77 disrupted flights 38 arrivals and 39 departures  adding to the ripple effect of IndiGo’s network-wide operational challenges.

Refunds Touch ₹610 Crore; Fare Caps Moderate Surge

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) said IndiGo has processed ₹610 crore in refunds, following directives to clear all pending payments for cancelled or heavily delayed flights by Sunday 8 pm.

No additional fees are allowed for rescheduling travel affected by disruptions, MoCA said, adding that dedicated support cells have been set up for passenger assistance. The ministry noted that operational performance has “shown steady improvement”, with schedules gradually stabilising. Temporary fare caps introduced to curb price surges have begun to moderate fares on impacted routes.

Government Orders Clearance of Baggage Backlog

The government has directed IndiGo to trace and deliver all separated baggage within 48 hours, ensuring continuous communication with passengers. As of Saturday, the airline had already delivered 3,000 bags across India.

DGCA Appeals to Pilots Ahead of Fog Season

With fog season approaching and passenger volumes rising due to holiday and wedding travel, the DGCA issued an appeal urging pilots and pilot associations to extend full cooperation to help stabilise operations.

The regulator emphasised that unpredictable weather, high demand and heavy loads are already straining networks and called for improved coordination to reduce avoidable delays.

Pilot Body Flags Concerns Over FDTL Rules

Responding to DGCA’s appeal, the Airlines Pilots Association of India (ALPA) said it is prepared to support efforts to restore normalcy but cautioned against any dilution of revised Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) norms, saying it would compromise fatigue protection and passenger safety.

IndiGo CEO Gets 24-Hour Extension to Respond to DGCA Notice

The DGCA has granted IndiGo’s CEO and Accountable Manager a one-time 24-hour extension to reply to the Show Cause Notice issued on December 6 regarding large-scale disruptions and observed non-compliances.
