New Delhi, Dec 24: Air travel across northern India faced major disruptions on Wednesday as dense fog blanketed several states, leading to flight delays and cancellations, including at key airports such as Delhi, Amritsar, Agra, Jaisalmer, Gwalior, Kanpur, Hindon, and Bareilly.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog is likely at isolated locations across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in the coming days.
Delhi airport advisory:
Despite low visibility procedures in place, operations were affected. The airport issued a passenger advisory, urging travellers to check flight status before heading out.
IndiGo flight disruptions:
At least 18 IndiGo flights were cancelled nationwide due to poor visibility, affecting major routes connecting Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Indore, Vijayawada, and other cities. Several other flights faced delays due to aircraft rotation and operational constraints.
Passengers were advised to monitor real time flight updates as weather conditions continued to affect schedules across northern, eastern, and central India.
IMD weather outlook and health advisory:
The IMD forecast dense fog till December 27, with continued cold-wave conditions in northern India. Travellers were cautioned about respiratory issues, eye irritation, asthma, and risks of flu or frostbite, especially for vulnerable groups.
