IndiGo Makes History as First Airline to Launch Flights from Noida International Airport

New aviation gateway in Jewar begins operations with IndiGo connecting more than 16 destinations, boosting regional travel and economic growth across North India.

Jewar (Uttar Pradesh), June 15: IndiGo on Monday became the inaugural airline to commence commercial flight services from the newly opened Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, marking a significant milestone for India’s rapidly expanding aviation sector.

The airline’s first arrival landed from Lucknow in the morning, followed shortly by the airport’s first outbound IndiGo service to Bengaluru. The launch establishes Noida International Airport as the latest aviation hub in the National Capital Region (NCR) and strengthens connectivity between major metropolitan centres and emerging cities across the country.

The commencement of operations represents a major step in enhancing air travel accessibility for passengers in western Uttar Pradesh and the broader Delhi-NCR region. With services now active, travellers can access direct flights to more than 16 domestic destinations through IndiGo’s growing network.

The airline has also introduced convenient one-stop travel options linking several city pairs that previously lacked seamless connectivity. These routes are expected to improve access between smaller urban centres and larger economic hubs, creating new opportunities for business, tourism, education and trade.

Passengers from cities including Amritsar, Bareilly, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Jammu, Jaipur, Kishangarh and Pantnagar will benefit from improved connections through the airline’s expanding network. The move is expected to significantly reduce travel time and provide more convenient flight choices for travellers across northern India.

Speaking on the occasion, IndiGo Chief Strategy Officer Aloke Singh described the opening of the airport as an important development in India’s aviation landscape. He noted that the NCR has now joined a select group of major global urban regions supported by multiple airports, allowing for greater passenger capacity and improved operational efficiency.

According to Singh, serving as the launch carrier at the new airport reflects the airline’s commitment to supporting the economic and transportation needs of western Uttar Pradesh and the wider Delhi-NCR region. He emphasized that the new facility would open fresh opportunities for millions of travellers while contributing to regional development.

Officials at Noida International Airport also welcomed the start of commercial operations, highlighting the airport’s role in expanding transportation infrastructure and enhancing passenger convenience.

Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said the arrival of the first scheduled flights marks the beginning of a new phase for the airport. He stated that the partnership with IndiGo will provide travellers with greater connectivity from the very first day of operations while supporting the long-term growth of aviation, commerce and tourism in the region.

Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is expected to emerge as a major aviation and logistics centre. Industry observers believe the facility will play a crucial role in accommodating growing passenger demand while supporting cargo movement and regional economic activity.

The airport’s location offers direct access to several rapidly developing industrial, commercial and residential zones, making it an attractive gateway for domestic and international travellers alike. Improved transportation links are also expected to attract new investments and generate employment opportunities in the surrounding region.

With the addition of Noida International Airport to its network, IndiGo now operates from all three airports serving the National Capital Region — Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, and the newly operational airport in Jewar.

The launch of services from Noida International Airport underscores India’s continued investment in modern aviation infrastructure and reflects the increasing demand for air travel across the country. Industry experts believe the airport will play a vital role in supporting future passenger growth while strengthening regional connectivity and economic development in northern India.

As flight operations gradually expand, the airport is expected to become a key transportation hub, providing travellers with additional choices and helping ease congestion at existing airports in the National Capital Region.
