Infineon Acquires Bengaluru Semiconductor Firm C2i to Expand AI Data Centre Technology

The German chipmaker is strengthening its power-management portfolio for artificial intelligence infrastructure through the acquisition of India's C2i Semiconductors.

BENGALURU, Aug 25: German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has agreed to acquire Bengaluru based C2i Semiconductors, expanding its capabilities in power management technology for artificial intelligence data centres.

Infineon announced the acquisition on August 24, saying C2i’s technology will complement its existing semiconductor portfolio and support the growing demand for efficient power solutions in AI infrastructure.

Bengaluru based C2i specialises in smart power stage and digital power management technologies. These components are increasingly important as data centres require greater computing capacity and consequently consume more electricity.

The acquisition comes at a time when the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is driving demand for specialised chips and advanced infrastructure capable of handling intensive computing workloads.

Infineon said the deal would strengthen its ability to develop solutions for AI data centres, where efficient power delivery and management are becoming increasingly important.

The transaction also highlights India’s growing role in the global semiconductor ecosystem. Bengaluru has emerged as a major technology and engineering hub, attracting investment and research activity from international chip companies.

AI data centres require sophisticated power systems to operate high-performance processors reliably and efficiently. As companies expand their AI computing capacity, demand for technologies that can manage electricity consumption and improve system performance is expected to rise.

The acquisition therefore gives Infineon access to C2i’s engineering expertise while allowing the Indian company to become part of a larger global semiconductor business.

The move comes amid a broader worldwide push to expand semiconductor capabilities and develop technologies needed to support artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other data-intensive applications.

For India, the deal adds to the country’s growing presence in semiconductor design and advanced technology development, even as policymakers seek to attract more manufacturing and investment into the domestic chip ecosystem.
