TEHRAN, Sept 13: Iran, Iraq and Turkey have called for intensified diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation of tensions and contain the spread of conflicts across West Asia.
The issue was discussed during separate telephone conversations on Saturday between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Turkish and Iraqi counterparts, according to statements issued by Iran’s Foreign Ministry early Sunday.
During his conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi reviewed the latest regional developments and stressed the importance of preventing a further deterioration of the security situation.
The two ministers also emphasised the need to avoid an expansion of regional conflicts and agreed on the importance of continued consultations and diplomatic engagement to promote peace and stability.
In a separate call with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Araghchi discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and ongoing diplomatic processes.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of preserving security and stability along the Iran-Iraq border and maintaining close coordination between the neighbouring countries.
They called for responsible handling of developments in the region and stressed the need for concerted efforts to prevent existing conflicts from widening or spreading to additional areas.
Meanwhile, Iran and Oman have reached an understanding on the details of new entry and exit routes for the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian officials said on Saturday.
The outcome of the consultations is expected to be presented to Gulf countries during a regional meeting in Muscat on Monday.
The discussions come amid heightened regional tensions, with neighbouring countries seeking greater coordination and diplomatic engagement to prevent further instability and protect regional security.
