Iran, Feb 21 : Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held separate phone conversations on Friday with his Egyptian and Russian counterparts to discuss the latest developments in indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
During his call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Araghchi emphasized preparations for a draft framework for negotiations that respects mutual interests, following the second round of talks with Washington in Geneva earlier this week. Abdelatty welcomed the ongoing diplomatic engagement and urged continued consultations to achieve an acceptable framework for all parties.
In a separate conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the discussions focused on the current state of Iran’s nuclear program and the outcomes of the indirect US-Iranian contacts in Geneva. Lavrov reiterated Russia’s support for diplomatic solutions based on Iran’s legitimate rights under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The renewed diplomatic efforts come amid escalating tensions in the region, including a US military buildup. President Donald Trump has set a 10-to-15-day window for Iran to reach a nuclear deal, warning of severe consequences otherwise. Reports indicate the US administration is considering options ranging from limited strikes on Iranian military sites to a broader campaign targeting government facilities, potentially aimed at regime change. No final decision on military action has been made.
