DUBAI, Mar 2: The Israeli military carried out a series of airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, early Monday after the Iran-backed group Hezbollah fired missiles toward northern Israel.
Israeli defense officials said one projectile was intercepted after crossing the frontier, while others landed in unpopulated areas. Authorities reported no casualties or structural damage.
The exchange represents the first publicly acknowledged attack by Hezbollah against Israel in more than a year, signaling a sharp rise in hostilities along the volatile border region.
In a statement, Hezbollah described its action as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and cited what it called ongoing Israeli military operations.
The latest developments heighten concerns of broader regional instability as cross border confrontations threaten to draw neighboring actors deeper into conflict.
