Jaishankar Extends Greetings to Chinese Counterpart, Emphasises India’s Commitment to Stabilising Ties

EAM Jaishankar Greets China on National Day, Emphasises Rebuilding and Stabilising Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday extended greetings to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and the people of China on the occasion of the 76th National Day of the People’s Republic of China, emphasising India’s commitment to stabilising and rebuilding bilateral ties.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Greetings to Politburo Member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Chinese people on the occasion of the founding day of the People’s Republic of China. Look forward to continuing our work to stabilise and rebuild our ties.”

The PRC was founded on October 1, 1949, by Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong. The greeting comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China for the SCO Summit in Tianjin, where he met President Xi Jinping. Both leaders welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations since the last BRICS Summit in October 2024 and reaffirmed the importance of peace and tranquillity in border areas to support continued development.

During the talks, India and China expressed commitment to a fair and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary issue, while recognising the progress made by the two Special Representatives earlier this month. The leaders also agreed to further support their efforts.

Jaishankar highlighted the need to strengthen people-to-people ties through initiatives such as direct flights, visa facilitation, and the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. On the economic front, both sides underscored the role of their economies in stabilising global trade and stressed the importance of political and strategic collaboration to expand bilateral trade and reduce the trade deficit.

The EAM reiterated that India and China are development partners rather than rivals, calling for a stable relationship based on mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity, ensuring that differences do not escalate into disputes.
