Jammu and Kashmir Police Recruitment: 5.59 Lakh Apply for 4,002 Constable Posts

Jammu, Nov 30: In what marks a significant recruitment drive for the Jammu and Kashmir Police, over 5.59 lakh aspirants have applied for 4,002 constable posts, with the exams scheduled to begin on December 1. The recruitment process, managed by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (JKSSRB), will span three examination dates: December 1, December 8, and December 22.

Indu Kanwal Chib, Chairperson of the JKSSRB, confirmed that the exams will be conducted across 856 centers in 20 districts of the region. The first phase, on December 1, will see 2,62,863 candidates competing for positions as constables (Executive, Armed, and SDRF). Among these, the highest number of applicants—54,296—hail from Jammu district.

The second round of exams, on December 8, will test 1,67,609 candidates for constable positions in Telecommunications. On December 22, an additional 1,28,663 aspirants will sit for the test for constable (Photographer) positions.

To ensure the exams are fair and secure, the JKSSRB has implemented stringent measures, including the presence of both male and female officers as frisking supervisors at each exam center. Additionally, all exams will be video recorded.

Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, emphasized the importance of deploying adequate personnel, including observers and security forces, at each center to facilitate smooth and secure conduct of the exams.

However, the recruitment drive has not been without controversy. A group of young aspirants in Jammu protested, calling for age relaxations for those who missed the age limit for the constable posts. These individuals, who had earlier petitioned the authorities for the relaxation, expressed disappointment over their appeals being denied. The protestors also demanded that the exams be rescheduled to provide them with a fair opportunity to compete.

In addition to the constable recruitment exams, the JKSSRB is set to begin the recruitment process for 669 Sub-inspectors in the police department on December 3. The application window for these posts will remain open until January 2, 2025.

The scale of this recruitment drive reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the region, offering thousands of youth the opportunity to serve in various capacities within the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
