Jammu Division Districts Shut Schools Amid Severe Weather Conditions

Authorities order closures in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, and Udhampur as heavy rain and storms continue.

Jammu, Jan 23: Schools across several districts in the Jammu division have been closed on Friday, January 23, 2026, due to ongoing severe weather conditions, officials said. The precautionary measure aims to safeguard students and school staff amid heavy rainfall and adverse weather.

District administrations confirmed that schools in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, and Udhampur will remain shut for the day.

In Rajouri, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) announced that all government and private schools will not operate, following directives from the Deputy Commissioner. Similarly, the CEO of Poonch said all educational institutions in the district would remain closed in light of the inclement conditions.

In Reasi district, schools outside municipal limits will remain closed for safety reasons, while institutions within town areas may continue to operate. Udhampur authorities reported that all primary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools will remain shut today due to heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather.

Officials have urged parents and students to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on any further instructions as the situation evolves.
