Jammu Marks Eid with Special Prayers for Peace Across the World

Devotees gather at mosques and eidgahs amid security; religious leaders call for end to global conflicts

Jammu, Mar 21: Eid al-Fitr was celebrated across the Jammu region with religious devotion and festive spirit, as large numbers of worshippers gathered at mosques and eidgahs to offer prayers for global peace and harmony. The celebrations took place under tight security arrangements.

The main congregation was held at the eidgah on Residency Road, while significant gatherings were also reported at Mecca Masjid in Bathindi and Jamia Masjid in Talab Khatikan. Similar scenes were witnessed across districts including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur.

Religious scholars emphasised the essence of Eid as a time for compassion, gratitude and unity after the holy month of Ramzan. Shahi Imam of Jammu, Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi, said the festival symbolises joy and thanksgiving, adding that prayers were offered for peace, prosperity and well-being of humanity. He also urged nations to resolve conflicts through dialogue, stating that war is not a solution.

Political leaders also joined the celebrations, extending greetings to the people. National Conference provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta highlighted Jammu’s tradition of communal harmony, noting that people from different communities come together to celebrate each other’s festivals. MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri expressed concern over global conflicts, linking them to rising prices and hardships faced by citizens, and prayed for peace and stability.

Following prayers, people exchanged greetings and sweets, celebrating the occasion with a spirit of unity and togetherness.
