Jammu Mayor Encourages Citizens to Join Anti-Polythene Movement with New App

Go Green in Jammu: Mayor Launches App to Combat Plastic Pollution

08-05-2023 : The Mayor of Jammu, Rajinder Sharma, has launched a mobile app to encourage participation in the city’s ongoing anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign. The app enables volunteers and others who join the campaign to obtain “Commitment Certificates” attesting to their participation in the effort to eliminate polythene carry bags from the environment. The Mayor highlighted that the certificates would be a testament to individuals’ commitment to protecting the environment from pollution and safeguarding it for future generations.

The certificate will feature the words “It is a matter of pride for me to be a part of a movement for eradication of polythene carry bags from our environment,” and include a pledge to use only eco-friendly bags made from cellulose, starch, paper, or cloth. Mayor Sharma encouraged all Jammu residents to obtain the certificate by visiting the link https://gogreenjammu.com/pledge.aspx.

To receive the certificate, individuals must fill in their name and choose from three options: organization, student, or citizen. For students, they must specify the name of their school or college. The certificate will bear the signatures of the Mayor, along with photographs of the Lieutenant Governor, Mayor, and Deputy Mayor.

The launch of the app is a significant step forward in the city’s anti-polythene and anti-plastic campaign, which seeks to reduce pollution and promote eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics. The Mayor’s initiative is expected to inspire more people to join the campaign and create a more sustainable future for Jammu.
