Jammu, June 16: Rail connectivity in the Jammu region has shown significant improvement following the restoration of a crucial railway bridge over the Ravi River, marking a major step toward normalizing train services in northern India.
The bridge, located on an important railway stretch between Kathua and Madhopur, had remained non-operational for several months due to structural damage caused by extreme weather conditions in the previous year. Its reopening has allowed several passenger and freight trains to resume smoother operations across the route.
Railway officials confirmed that train movement, which had been partially suspended or diverted during the disruption period, is now gradually returning to normal schedules. The restoration is expected to reduce travel time, ease congestion on alternative routes, and improve logistical efficiency for freight transport.
The reopening has brought relief to daily commuters, businesses and transport operators who were affected by prolonged delays and rerouting of services. The Jammu region, being a key transit hub, plays a critical role in connecting northern states with the rest of the country, making the restoration particularly significant.
Authorities have also emphasized that further infrastructure strengthening is underway to prevent similar disruptions in the future. Upgrades include reinforcement of vulnerable bridge sections, improved drainage systems and enhanced monitoring of flood-prone railway assets.
Officials stated that the restored connectivity will support both passenger convenience and regional economic activity, especially during the busy travel season.
With services stabilizing, the railway network is expected to operate at near-normal capacity in the coming weeks, pending further safety inspections and routine maintenance checks.
