Jammu–Srinagar Highway Partially Blocked After Protection Wall Collapse, Traffic Hit

Collapse in Ramban District Slows Vehicular Movement; NHAI Launches Restoration Work

Banihal (Ramban), Oct 17: A 40-metre section of a protection wall along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway collapsed on Thursday night in Ramban district, disrupting traffic and damaging the adjoining Sawni Panchayat link road, officials said on Friday.

Shubham Yadav, Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), confirmed that one tube of the four lane highway has been closed due to the collapse. “The cause of the erosion is yet to be ascertained,” he added.

Restoration work has been immediately initiated to reopen the affected tube and restore smooth traffic flow. Currently, vehicles are being regulated through the single operational tube, leading to slow movement on the vital highway connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The collapse also affected a portion of the Sawni Panchayat link road, impacting local connectivity. Officials from NHAI, the district administration, and the traffic department are on-site to monitor the situation and prevent further damage.
