Mumbai, Sep 23: A touching moment unfolded in Mumbai on Monday as Janhvi Kapoor graced the special screening of her upcoming film, Homebound, wearing a navy blue saree once owned by her late mother, the legendary Sridevi. The actress’s graceful appearance left fans emotional, celebrating her tribute to the iconic star.
The saree, adorned with delicate golden embroidery, was famously worn by Sridevi at the wedding reception of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli. Janhvi paired the ensemble with a black velvet blouse, a sleek bun, and elegant jewelry, including statement earrings and a choker necklace.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound recently received a significant honor, being selected by the Film Federation of India (FFI) as India’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category.
During a press conference earlier in the day, co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal, along with director Ghaywan, spoke about the making of the film. Ishaan Khatter expressed his pride, saying, “This is the film I’m most proud of. Neeraj bhai has made this movie with so much thought so that it can connect with a wider audience.”
Homebound follows the journey of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to become police officers. The story highlights their struggles, friendship, and pursuit of respect and dignity.
The film has already earned international acclaim, having been screened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). Indian audiences can catch the film in theaters nationwide starting September 26.
