Jat Mahasabha demands swift action on long-pending OBC Status for Jat Community

Advisory Members meeting to be held on Oct 22 at Golden Leaf Banquet Hall

JAMMU, October 11: All India Jat MahaSabha, Jammu and Kashmir, has fervently called upon the government to fulfill their long-standing promise to grant Other Backward Class (OBC) status to the Jat community.

This resounding call was made during a meeting convened by Ch. Manmohan Singh, President of AIJMS, Jammu and Kashmir, and former Mayor in Jammu today. In the meeting, District Presidents, Tehsil Presidents, and other office bearers of the Jat MahaSabha were present and deliberate on the pressing issues facing the Jat community.

Addressing the assembly, Ch. Manmohan Singh threw light on the unwavering commitment of the Jat MahaSabha in its struggle to secure OBC status for the Jat community. Over the last decade, the MahaSabha has tirelessly organized hundreds of rallies, Grand Mahila Adhiveshan, and National Level Sammelan to the cause of the Jat community. Through these efforts, the government’s attention was drawn to this critical issue, showcasing the community’s determination and dedication.

Ch. Manmohan Singh further pointed out that while the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, made an announcement regarding the conferment of OBC status to the Jat community, no substantial progress has been made to fulfill this promise. He expressed his deep concern over the government’s inaction in this matter and urged swift action to rectify this situation.

Ch. Manmohan Singh hoped that the government at the Centre will grant OBC status to the Jat community before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that if the government fails to fulfill its commitment regarding OBC status to Jat community before the upcoming elections, it should not expect support from the Jat community at the ballot box.

Ch. Manmohan Singh underscored the Jat MahaSabha’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Jat community, pledging to continue the fight until OBC status is granted. The MahaSabha remains steadfast in its commitment to working tirelessly for the upliftment and empowerment of the Jat community.

He appealed to the government to act promptly and honor their commitment to the Jat community, recognizing the importance of OBC status in securing the community’s future.

One of the primary concerns discussed during the meeting was the non-payment of compensation to border dwellers whose land has come under the border fence. Ch. Manmohan Singh disclosed that the MahaSabha has already met with Defence Minister. However, despite this, there has been no progress in addressing this issue.

Ch. Manmohan Singh fervently appealed to the Defence Minister to consider the genuine demand of border dwellers, who have long awaited compensation for their land.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed the distressing damage inflicted on standing crops due to a recent hailstorm. Participants expressed their deep concern and called upon the government to provide adequate compensation to the affected farmers, recognizing the significance of agriculture to the Jat community.

In addition to these matters, the participants highlighted the long-standing absence of a gathering for Advisory members. To address this concern, it was unanimously decided that the meeting of Advisory Members of All India Jat Mahasabha, Jammu and Kashmir, will be held on October 22 at 11:00 AM at the Golden Leaf Banquet Hall, Babliana in Jammu.

Ch Manmohan Singh said that there are more than 500 Advisory Members of Jat Mahasabha, J&K, and the Jat Mahasabha is functioning with their active involvement. So, this meeting will play a pivotal role in determining the future course of action regarding the promised OBC status by the government, he added.

The participants also emphasized the importance of education and skill development for the children of the Jat community, highlighting the need for investment in their future.

In conclusion, Ch. Manmohan Singh extended his gratitude to the District Presidents and Tehsil Presidents, urging them to promptly inform the Advisory Members in their respective areas about the upcoming meeting scheduled for October 22, emphasizing the importance of punctuality with a start time of 11:00 AM.
