Zero tolerance against graft: ACB chargesheets accused in SP bribery case

JAMMU, Dec 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed a chargesheet against Chander Shekhar Vohra, proprietor of M/s Asian Associates, in a bribery case involving an attempt to influence a senior police officer for personal gain. The chargesheet in FIR No. 01/2024 has been presented before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Jammu, under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

According to official sources, the case was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu following a written complaint submitted by the then Superintendent of Police, City South, Jammu. The complaint alleged that the accused approached the officer seeking undue favour related to the extension of dates for an exhibition-cum-sale being held at Gole Market, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.

The complainant further alleged that the accused attempted to bribe her by offering an amount of ₹30,000 to secure approval for extending the exhibition period. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Anti Corruption Bureau initiated a verification process and constituted a trap team to catch the accused in the act.

During the course of the operation, Chander Shekhar Vohra was caught red-handed inside the office of the Superintendent of Police, City South, while offering the bribe amount. The tainted cash of ₹30,000 was recovered and seized on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, officials said.

Following the trap, the ACB conducted a detailed investigation, recording statements, collecting evidence and completing all procedural formalities. On the basis of the material gathered, the case was found to be proved, leading to the filing of the chargesheet on December 24, 2025, for judicial determination.

Officials said the case reflects the firm resolve of Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau to act against corruption without fear or favour. They reiterated that any attempt to influence public servants through illegal means will invite strict legal action.
