J&K and Seven States Seek Delhi Police’s Guidance on Revolutionary Legal Reforms

New Delhi, July 5:  Official sources confirmed on Friday that several state police forces, including Jammu and Kashmir Police, have approached the Delhi Police seeking study material on the newly enacted criminal laws. The Delhi Police’s initiative to prepare comprehensive resources on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) has garnered significant interest from law enforcement agencies across eight states and Union Territories. These include Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

The study material, aimed at familiarizing personnel with the revised legal frameworks effective from July 1, not only involves updated statutes but also incorporates training modules and informative booklets. Delhi Police, spearheading this effort, has conducted specialized training sessions for its officers and disseminated educational resources to legal consultants, magistrates, and law universities. A dedicated committee formed earlier in January, under the leadership of Special Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma, oversaw the preparation and publication of these materials by March-April, following approval from Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.

The study materials, designed with user-friendly formats and content, include three sets of books addressing various aspects of the new laws, facilitating quick comprehension and application by personnel. The initiative also involves sharing these resources through the Bureau of Police Research and Development’s official website, ensuring wider accessibility and utilization by state police forces nationwide.
