SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 12: In a significant step aimed at intensifying the fight against the narcotics trade, Srinagar Police on Friday attached the residential property of a notorious drug peddler under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials said the property, a house valued at around ₹50 lakh and constructed on more than five marlas of land, belonged to Waseem Ahmad Bafanda, a resident of Lachmanpora, Dandrkha in Batamaloo. The action follows an NDPS case in which Bafanda has been found to have a direct role.
Police sources revealed that the accused has a long record of drug trafficking and was actively involved in pushing narcotics into local communities, particularly targeting vulnerable youth. Investigations indicated that the seized property was raised from the proceeds of the illegal narcotics trade.
“This action sends out a strong message to drug traffickers that their unlawful activities will not only land them behind bars but also strip them of assets amassed through such trade,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue stringent action against drug peddlers and their networks. The focus, they said, is not only on arresting offenders but also on dismantling the infrastructure that sustains the drug economy.
The Srinagar Police further appealed to the public to extend cooperation by reporting suspicious activities, stressing that protecting society, especially the younger generation, from drug abuse remains a top priority in the ongoing campaign against narcotics.
