J&K Crosses 1.05 Crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts Under Digital Health Mission

Union Territory emerges as a frontrunner in digital healthcare with rapid adoption of ABHA IDs, Electronic Medical Records, and paperless hospital services

Srinagar, Oct 8: Jammu and Kashmir has crossed a landmark milestone by generating more than 1.05 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), officials confirmed. This achievement marks a significant step in advancing digital healthcare and transforming patient services across the Union Territory.

The total number of ABHAs in J&K now stands at 1,05,04,499, reflecting rapid adoption of digital health infrastructure and growing public engagement with technology-driven healthcare solutions. “Jammu & Kashmir is not only advancing in health services and digital payments, but is also emerging as a frontrunner in digital healthcare,” said an ABDM official.

Launched nationally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2021 and formally rolled out in J&K in July 2022, the mission aims to build a robust digital ecosystem connecting healthcare providers, hospitals, labs, and citizens for seamless service delivery. In September 2025 alone, over 7.5 lakh ABHA cards were issued in the UT, demonstrating rapid grassroots adoption.

Under the guidance of Secretary Health and Medical Education Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and ABDM Mission Director Anant Dwivedi, J&K has achieved 100% registration of public health professionals, public hospitals, and private health facilities. The UT also ranks among the top four states nationally under the “Scan & Share” service, with 82,87,701 OPD-based token generations completed. Citizens can now book hospital appointments remotely by scanning QR codes through the ABHA app or abdmjk.in, reducing wait times and improving convenience.

Additionally, 90,44,810 Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) have been linked to citizens’ ABHA IDs, allowing patients to view complete health histories via the Personal Health Record (PHR) app. These innovations have helped J&K earn the Arogya Manthan Award in Delhi, recognizing its excellence in modernizing healthcare services.

Officials noted that ABDM ensures paperless tracking from admission to discharge, facilitates evidence-based treatment, speeds up claims processing, ensures price transparency, and bridges gaps in follow-up and remote consultation between doctors, hospitals, and labs.

“The participation of health workers, allied staff, and highly qualified professionals has been pivotal to the smooth implementation of ABDM in the UT,” officials said, highlighting how the initiative is strengthening healthcare infrastructure and setting a benchmark for digital health services nationwide.
