01-08-2023 : During an event in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, addressed the current state of militancy in the region. While acknowledging that militancy has seen a decline, he emphasized that it has not been entirely eradicated from J&K.
Speaking to media persons, Singh stated that although significant progress has been made in curbing militancy, there remain a few elements persistently attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the region. He assured that stringent measures are being taken to counter these disruptive elements and maintain the tranquility of Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding the case of a missing 25-year-old Army man from Asthal Kulgam, Singh informed that the police, along with the Army and other forces, are actively involved in the search operation. He empathized with the family’s concern and expressed hope for the soldier’s safe return. However, he noted that as of now, no substantial breakthrough has been made, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the actual ground situation.
Singh reassured that vital leads have been obtained in the case, and the police are working collaboratively with other security forces to swiftly resolve the matter. However, he emphasized the need for patience as the investigations are still in progress.
Addressing the overall security situation, the DGP mentioned that there is a presence of foreign militants in south Kashmir, and efforts are being made to track them down. He pointed out that the number of militants in Jammu and Kashmir is currently at an all-time low.
